12AX7 Telefunken smooth plate, COMMENTS

Brent- Wanted to let you know that the Telefunken 12AX7 Medical Grade I ordered last week arrived safe and sound, and oh, what a difference! The Ruby tube it replaced in my phono stage was clearly the weak link in my system. With the Telefunken, I immediately got a huge improvement in detail, attack, and overall musicality. Especially noticeable was the improvement in the sound of percussion instruments, particularly cymbals, where I couldn't previously make out the strike of the sticks or brushes on the instrument - just a blurry ongoing ring. With the new tube, the front edge of every strike is distinct, bringing the sense of pace and rhythm to new heights. The effect on plucked strings and articulation in brass instruments was equally impressive. All in all, it sounds like a totally different system. Thanks for the great pick! Best, AJ

The 10M series by Mullard is a British tube classic, and these are very scarce in the USA! 10,000 hour rated heater life, matched triodes, low noise and low microphonics screened. All have the early Siemens-Halske factory mark on the bottom center, with the date code for 1953, have an early green Haltron diamond logo label, and all feature long narrow ribbed plates and small halo getters. These were made by CBS and labeled for Raytheon, then screened for precision laboratory use and sold under the Leeds & Northrop label, with their lab grade number on the tube and box. This is a nice, but very scarce, version of the 12AX7 only made by CBS. Perfect for tube microphone preamplifiers.
