I have some vintage vacuum tube testers for sale, and are listed here on this page. Anyone who has a sizeable investment in vacuum tubes or vacuum tube hi-fi equipment owes it to themselves to have a good tube tester on hand to periodically check the tubes they are using. You can take a more active role in "tube rolling" as you can match your own pairs, and keep tabs on the tubes you are currently using and know well in advance of when replacement time is near.

Tube testers have been out of production since the late 1970s, and supplies are only fair at this time. The prices have been steadily on the rise, especially with the frenzied buying of certain vintage testers on eBay and other online auction sites. Some of these sell prices of certain brands and models are grossly inflated. Hopefully on this webpage I can present good vintage tube testers at reasonable prices, away from the frenzy of the online auctionplace.

Hickok Model 539B Dynamic Mutual Conductance Tube Tester

The Hickok 539B was one of Hickok's best models. The 539 series was marketed as their "engineer's" model. Advanced features such as metered bias voltage are found on only a few of the most advanced tube tester. This tester is not for beginners, it does have a learning curve. If you have used tube testers before, this could be the best you have ever used! The picture is representative. Ours is actually cleaner with better meter glass. The tester is completely checked out recently calibrated, and is very clean. • Measures true transconductance in "micromhos", the most accurate tube test.
• Separate line voltage meter makes it easy to keep the line voltage properly adjusted for more accurate test results.
• Separate bias voltage meter for precise monitoring of proper grid bias voltage.
• Bias voltage meter doubles as milliammeter for testing V-R tubes.
• Very large main meter for measuring tube quality. Quality measurements are made in micromhos (no good-bad scale on this tester).
• Main meter also measures inter-element leakage (shorts) in ohms. This is a much more sensitive test than the neon shorts light (also found on this tester).
• Sensitive gas content test which important for amplifier tubes.
• Provisions for monitoring of heater current with external meter
• Provisions for adding a self bias (cathode) resistor\
• Provisions for monitoring of plate current using an external meter.
• Includes sockets for 4pin, 5pin, 6pin and 7pin , octal, locktol, acorn, sub-miniature, 7pin miniature, 9 pin miniature tubes.
• Built-in roll chart contains settings for most common tubes.
• Roll chart supplement books are included for obsolete and foreign tubes
